Zicatela Beach is located on the eastern side of Puerto Escondido in Mexico. Rated in the top ten main surfing spots in the world, the beach is famous for its surfing competitions, which attract people from different countries.
Zicatela beach is an average of 50 to 100 m wide and 4 km (2.5 mi) long.
The best time to visit the beach is between April and November. However, some professional and non-professional surfers visit the beach throughout the year.
Flights, buses, and taxis are the main transportation options from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido. Then, the beach can be accessed easily by walking or driving, as it is only a 20 min walk from the town center. The parking space is small here, so it is advisable to go early.
Many people recommend Zicatela Beach expert surfing and not for swimming, as it has a strong undertow with very strong waves and currents. Lifeguards are present at all times, as the beach is classified as a high-risk place. Some of the lifeguards present are skilled, while the others are volunteers.
There are simple kitchens and decent washing facilities available along the beach line. Many hotels, which are affordable in price, are close to the beach. The nightlife is vibrant with good bars and night clubs available.
