This beach is famed for the viral videos of planes soaring so close overhead. This is the main attraction on this beach. While it is worth seeing if visiting the area, the general facilities are not too extensive. Great, but not a traditional beach experience.
How to get there
There is a road that runs right behind the beach. This makes it accessible by car, foot, and bicycle. There are also regular buses that stop right near the beach. The Maho Beach is very easy to access. There is also plenty of car parking in the area too. A new car park was installed a couple of years ago, however, there are also spaces on nearby streets.
Facilities at the Maho Beach
Due to the fact that this beach is very small, there isn’t a very extensive range of facilities. A lifeguard isn’t always present, but the water isn’t extremely safe to swim in. People complain of strong currents, so limiting water activities to windsurfing and skimboarding is recommended.
Maho beach isn’t thought of as wheelchair accessible, and there isn’t much space to help with disability access.
There aren’t any changing rooms, toilets, or showers. You can use toilets from the bars and restaurants nearby. Also, there are no sunbeds and umbrellas for rent here. There is not enough space to really stretch out, and the beach is often crowded.
Restaurants, bars, and cafes
On the beach itself, the only two bars/restaurants are the Sunset Bar and Grill, and Bamboo. Nearby there are many other restaurants and bars to choose from. There are plenty of different beaches close by that cater to holiday makers.
Hotels near the beach
The hotels are many in the area, but not on the beach. Some of the most popular are:
Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino
Royal Palm Beach Resort
Sonesta Ocean Point Resort
Royal Islander Club La Terrasse Resort
The Summit Hotel
