Karekare Beach, West Auckland

Located to the west of Auckland CBD, Karekare is a black sand beach that is popular with both locals and travelers.

Swimming and surfing are the main water sports activities available at Karekare beach. However, the sea here does get rough at times, and great caution is advised. There are lifeguard patrols during the peak season, and the safe areas are marked with flags.

Accessing Karekare from the Auckland is not very easy, as there is no direct transportation. The easiest way to get to the Karekare Beach is to take public transport, but this only covers part of the journey to Titirangi. For the rest of the journey (about 16 km), you can use a taxi. There is also car parking for people who choose to self-drive.
