Guincho Beach, Lisbon

Located within the Serra de Sintra national park, the Guincho Beach is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches around the capital of Portugal.

This beach is very popular among surfers due to strong winds and powerful waves.

How to Get There?

It can be a little inconvenient for tourists traveling from Lisbon due to the limited connectivity of public transport to the beach.

By bus or train

  • Lisbon-Guincho Route (indirect route that includes bus and train)
    Total journey time: Around 55 min
  • Visitors can take a train from Lisbon up to the Cascais town, from where it is a 2 min walk to the bus stop. The bus routes that ply from Cascais are 405 and 415. The travel time is 30 min by bus.

By car

Tourists can drive or hire a car to the beach from Lisbon. The distance is 35 km towards west from Lisbon and would take around 40 min to reach the beach. The best route that leads directly to Guincho is expressway A5. An alternative route is via N247 to Cascais. Parking is available.

Services and activities on the beach

Lifeguards: The beach is monitored and supervised by lifeguards in the peak summer season.

Water sports: The beach has a wide range of water sports facilities for tourists.

Surfing can be enjoyed in the Atlantic waters by professional surfers. There is surfing equipment available for hire at the beach according to the time duration of use.

The rental prices for surfboards are:

  • 10 EUR for 1 hour
  • 15 EUR for 6 hours
  • 25 EUR for a full day
  • Wet-suits are also available with a rental price range from 5 to 15 EUR

Tourist can enjoy such water sports as

  • windsurfing
  • snorkeling
  • swimming
  • and kite surfing among others.

Disabled access: Disabled access ramp and walkway facilities are available to reach the beach for the people with mobility problems.

Toilets, public showers and changing rooms are available at the beach.

Sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented at the beach as well.

Car parking: There is a car parking area located near Estalagem Hotel (towards the south of the beach)

Dining

There are many good cafes and restaurants near the beach that provide good food.
There is a good bar “Bar do Guincho” where guests can sit and enjoy good shakes, drinks, and light refreshments. Some good hotels near the beach are Fortaleza de Guincho and Hotel Quinta da Marina. There are many great snack bars available as well.
